Nicia Mafra has been working with handmade paper since 1980. Innovative artist, designer and environmentalist, encouraged people to appreciate the aesthetic importance of paper, especially recycling. Nícia Mafra´s Handmade Paper Office makes paper by hand from natives plants found in Brazil in abundance in our tropical climate. Sisal, banana fiber, bamboo, sugar cane, straw, and many other sources are used. The highest quality raw materials combined with traditional and flexible small-scale handmade methods thus provide a variety of fine paper products to suit a wide range of needs. Since 1998, Nícia have been working with people who collect recycled materials on the street (waste pickers), encouraging this people to work in a professional concept model based on solidarity and dignity to develop sustainability, contributing to improve best practices and responsible consumption. Since 2007, Nicia LEAD Network is part of having participated in the program Redevelopment and Major Cities and climate change during the COP13 in Indonesia and Mexico City, working as a leader against the climate change.
